Submerged by Sean Tully

Submerged by Sean Tully

December 6th, 2009 by Mike Quilliam

Art shows are always a blast. The cold Tecates, pretty face dames, and sonic sound coming from the ghetto blaster assure to this. As was the case with the SUBMERGED art show, a good time was had by all. The show included mixed media collage paintings, screenprints on canvas, medium format film photography, and wooden sculptures.
An appropriate vibe was provided through the music of Andrew “Jenkins” Jones and Xocoyotzin Moraza. Jenkins was a glasser at Patagonia and grew keen on making his bass drums out of surfboard materials. They sound insane. Xocoyotzin is a third generation harpist. His father made his instruments and I cant even explain how well he plays them.

Following the art show, roughly 20 of us peddled beach cruzers and fixies to El Rey Cantina. It was a mad ride! El Rey is a fine establishment exhibiting multiple velvet Elvis paintings, bra adorned chandeliers and a splendid selection of tequilla. Arriving at El Rey, we were greeted with a crushing DJ set delivered by DJ Alf Alpha.

The show was rocking. I’m super grateful to all who came out and contributed to the show’s success. If you didn’t make the show and find yourself in Ventura, the work will be on display till December 10th. Laurel Gallery 255 S. Laurel St. Ventura, California.
The gallery is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from noon till 4pm. Contact Jon Nelson for further information at (858) 864-8803.

Dana Point says no to Window Stickers

Dana Point says no to Window Stickers

July 10th, 2009 by Mike Quilliam

With window stickers being a major part in many companies marketing programs Dana Point has dropped the hammer on them in the form of a ban. We don’t understand why but it is what it is, are only major concern was the windows we had flowing across Infinity Surfboards. With the help of the Brown Blurr and Atwater’s soulful noserider Sean Tully we came up with a solution in the form of a painted board in the front window of the shop. Check it out next time your in DP.
